Days of Our Lives’ Matthew Ashford Really Wants Jack’s Return on Dool

Days of Our Lives star Matthew Ashford has recently expressed interest in returning as Jack Deveraux on the soap opera. Not only that, he has also shared the story avenues he wanted to take the character on. Jack and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) recently returned to Salem following the demise of John Black. Not long after, the former met Leo and offered him some journalistic guidance.

Here’s what Matthew Ashford said about returning as Jack on Days of Our Lives.

Matthew Ashford hopes for his return as Jack on Days of Our Lives

Matthew Ashford recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest, expressing his hope to the outlet that he could come back to Days of Our Lives in a regular capacity. He also shared his ideas for story avenues Jack could get involved in.

“I’d be happy to reignite some of the old days craziness at The Spectator,” Ashford stated. He mentioned that he would like Jack to be involved in the journeys of the soap opera’s “new young actors.” He noted that these “young actors” have not yet figured their places in the show, and the creators have not yet understood how to explore them.

Ashford expressed his interest in Jack taking on a role similar to the late Wayne Heffley’s Vern Scofield, The Spectator’s editor, whom he noted did “a lot of crazy things.” The actor highlighted Jack’s recent meeting with Leo, expressing his desire for Jack to assume a mentor role to “young people,” similar to how Vern mentored Jack back in the day.

“Let Jack be the taskmaster. I’d be glad to be able to do that,” Ashford added. “I don’t know what the Leo thing was or where that’s [going to go], but I’d be game for that.”

Moreover, The Bay actor shared his hopes to be involved in his daughter Gwen’s storyline. He praised actor Emily O’Brien‘s inclusion in the show, calling her “a wonderful addition.”

Furthermore, Ashford wanted Jack to strike up a friendship with Paul Telfer’s Xander, whom he noted became “Jack’s guilty pleasure.” He stressed that Xander resonated with Jack as both of them had to deal with their “demons.” Notably, Xander and Jack’s friendship suffered after Xander and Gwen took away half of The Spectator from Jack. However, Xander managed to repair the friendship by giving back the half he took from Jack.
