Dept. Q revolves around Carl, a former detective struggling with the guilt of his partner’s condition and the death of a policeman. After returning to the force, he gets a case that changes his life. Following its recent premiere, fans are eagerly awaiting details about its next chapters. So, is Dept. Q canceled or renewed for Season 2?
Here’s all you need to know about the follow-ups to the crime thriller series.
Is Dept. Q Season 2 renewed or canceled by Netflix?
As of now, Dept. Q Season 2 is neither renewed nor canceled by Netflix.
Season 1 was released on May 29, 2025. It has a total of nine episodes. The series follows Netflix’s traditional pattern of releasing all the episodes at once instead of dividing them into parts. After watching the last episode, fans have grown curious about its follow-up season. However, Dept. Q is yet to announce its second chapter. Nevertheless, the show is not canceled as of now.
Dept. Q has a strong chance of returning with another season. The show has received a positive reception with an 8.3/10 rating on IMDb and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, if the show has managed to garner good viewership as well, the makers will likely roll out a season 2. Moreover, Dept. Q is based on a book franchise written by Jussi Adler-Olsen, which can be explored in many seasons.
The show’s creator, Scott Frank, told Radio Times they haven’t discussed Season 2 yet, but it depends on the viewership. In another interview, Frank hoped for a Season 2 and said, “The last three shows I made were meant to be one and done. There was no more to say but I’d love to do more with this and the next book in the series is even more interesting and relevant.” (via BBC)
Lead actor Matthew Goode also expressed excitement, stating, “I was saying to Scott the other day, what we really need to do is, A, season 2, and we need to get Alexej into eight weeks of Krav Magar training so the fight scenes in season 2 can be amazing.”
While the team seems pumped up, it will be interesting to see whether Netflix rolls out the second season for Dept. Q.
