Renowned country pop singer Morgan Wallen once again landed himself amid a controversy after he decided to prematurely exit the Saturday Night Live (SNL) stage last month. After appearing on the late-night live sketch comedy series to promote his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, the 32-year-old artist took an early leave from the Rockefeller Center set right before the credits began to roll. Now, Wallen has come out to address the issue, explaining his motivation to take this peculiar step.
So, here’s everything you need to know regarding Wallen’s unexpected exit from SNL.
Morgan Wallen talks about his SNL exit
During the March 29, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live, the two-time Grammy-nominated musician appeared on the beloved comedy show for the second time in his career to spread the word about his latest album.
However, Morgan Wallen abruptly departed from the SNL stage after thanking host Mikey Madison, surprising cast members and viewers alike. Shortly after this stint, the Tennessee-born artist took to his Instagram stories to share the image of a private jet, alongside the caption, “Get me to God’s country.”(via People)
More than a month after this incident, Wallen has finally shared insight into his decision to exit the SNL stage in such a hasty manner. During the “Whiskey Glasses” singer’s recent appearance on the Sundae Conversations, host Caleb Pressley questioned him if SNL had done something to make him mad. Wallen simply replied, “No, no, I was just ready to go home. I’ve been there all week.”
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, veteran SNL cast member Kenan Thompson also shared his opinion on Morgan Wallen’s sudden exit. He noted, “It just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible.”
Thompson then took a jibe at Wallen’s Instagram story, adding, “The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite.”
