Swift regularly attended the event from 2008 to 2016. But after her 2016 attendance, where she reportedly crossed paths with Joe Alwyn for the first time, she stepped away from the event. During her relationship with Alwyn, she often opted out of the event. In 2019 and 2021, for instance, she was reportedly spending time with him in London and Ireland, respectively.
However, now that Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce is much more open than her previous relationship, fans were hopeful for a joint appearance at the 2024 Met Gala. But the pop star was preparing for her next Eras Tour dates at the time, forcing her to skip the event once again.
