Many fans are curious to know what happened to Mickey Rourke‘s face to result in his current appearance. The 72-year-old actor and former professional boxer has recently entered the British reality show Celebrity Big Brother, which has brought back discussions about Mickey Rourke’s surgeries and the drastic transformation of his facial structure.
Mickey Rourke shares his face surgery details
Mickey Rourke opened up about the details of his face surgery and transformation in 2009. Rourke’s career was going through several changes, and he explained how boxing left him with several injuries that needed medical intervention.
Speaking about his early days in boxing, Rourke told The Daily Mail, “I was a good amateur and took a year off due to concussion. I grew up in a gym in Miami, the one where Muhammad Ali trained. I had 142 amateur fights and lost three.”
However, the training and fights left their mark. He revealed, “I had my nose broken twice. I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone.” Furthermore, he also had to take his “cartilage” from his ear to “rebuild” his nose.
One corrective measure led to another. Rourke explained that there were “a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn’t healing properly. He added, “That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was hemorrhoids.”
Rourke believes that his face also took a different shape because of his choice of doctor. The Iron Man 2 actor confessed, “Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together.”
In 2017, Rourke took to Instagram to share details about his new nose surgery. In the caption, he wrote, “Moments after nose surgery with Dr. Dhir. Now I am pretty again (lol)…one more to go. I don’t know what day it is; I don’t even realize operation is over.”
