What happened at the end of Presumed Innocent Episode 3?

Towards the end of Episode 3, it is revealed that Rusty’s son, Kyle, was close to Carolyn’s house on the night of the murder.

The episode opens with viewers getting to see how the ongoing case has taken a toll on Barbara’s life. After learning about the blackmailing note for Rusty Barbara is devastated to discover the truth about her husband and Carolyn. Rusty’s affair with Carolyn shakes her belief in her husband’s innocence, which eventually leads to a breakdown. She is also temporarily ousted from her job due to her connection with the murder suspect. As a result, a shattered Barbara is seen seeking comfort in the company of a bartender.

Elsewhere, it is revealed that Rusty’s blackmailer is none other than Carolyn’s son, Michael. Firmly believing that Rusty is the perpetrator, Michael sets up a meeting with him to get answers regarding his motive. As Rusty requests him to hand over the evidence that proves his presence at Carolyn’s house on the night of the crime, Michael conveys that he has already sent the photos to the authorities.

Meanwhile, Tommy decides to hide evidence in an attempt to frame Rusty. However, he is forced to turn over the said photos to the defense counsel at the behest of the judge. Upon reviewing the evidence, Rusty and Raymond discover that Michael had pictured the former and Carolyn during their intimate moments on the fateful night. They also find out that Kyle, Rusty’s son, was near the crime scene sometime before the murder took place. Kyle’s involvement surprises Rusty and ultimately takes the case in an unprecedented direction.

Who killed Carolyn Polhemus in Presumed Innocent?

As of now, the identity of Carolyn Polhemus’ killer remains unknown.

Rusty is still the prime suspect in the case. With Carolyn disclosed to be pregnant with Rusty’s child before her unfortunate killing, the successful lawyer has a clear motive in the case. As a reputed family man, Rusty could have murdered his mistress to salvage his image.

The second suspect in the case is Liam Reynolds. He was sentenced to life for abusing and murdering a woman named Bunny Davis. With Rusty and Carolyn leading the case for his conviction, Liam holds an evident grudge against the two. However, he has a strong case for his defense, as the convict was in prison at the time of the murder.

Michael Caldwell, Carolyn’s son, is another possible suspect in the case. However, apart from his unhinged personality, there is no known motive for Michael to have done the murder.
