Created by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, Jon de la Cuesta, and David Orea, The Asunta Case is a true-crime drama series streaming on Netflix. The plot revolves around the disappearance and death of 12-year-old Asunta Yong Fang Basterra Porto and the subsequent investigation. Season 1 premiered on April 26, 2024. If you are curious about the possibilities and probable release date of Season 2, this is what we have learned.
Here’s all we know about The Asunta Case Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.
Is there a The Asunta Case Season 2 release date?
There is no The Asunta Case Season 2 release date as Netflix and series creators made the show as a six-episode limited series.
Netflix officially designates The Asunta Case as a limited series, so a sophomore season of it is unlikely to happen. While, in the past, Netflix has turned shows initially dubbed as limited series into multi-seasonal projects, The Asunta Case finishes the story it sets to tell by the end of Episode 6. The jury (spoilers warning) finds both Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra guilty of murdering their adoptive daughter Asunta. The title cards at the end of Episode 6 explain what happened afterward. Porto and Basterra were subsequently sentenced to 18 years in prison, though they maintained their claims of innocence. Porto died by suicide at the Brieva women’s incarceration facility in Ávilain in November 2020.
The cast of The Asunta Case includes Candela Peña as Rosario Porto and Tristán Ulloa as Alfonso Basterra. The cast also features Carlos Blanco, María León, Francesc Orella, Raúl Arévalo, and Alicia Borrachero.
Why The Asunta Case Season 2 might not be happening
The Asunta Case Season 2 probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, Netflix developed the show as a limited series. ComingSoon will provide an update if circumstances change, and the streaming giant greenlights another season of The Asunta Case.
The official synopsis for The Asunta Case reads:
“When Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra report their daughter Asunta as missing, the investigation soon turns against them.”
