Created by J.P. Delaney from his 2016 namesake book, The Girl Before is a psychological thriller series. The plot revolves around two women, Jane and Emma, who move into the strikingly beautiful minimalist house three years apart and become romantically involved with the architect who designed it. Jane soon discovers that she shares an unsettling amount of similarities with Emma, who died under mysterious circumstances. The first season, comprising four episodes, premiered in the UK on BBC One on December 19, 2021. It also began streaming in the US on HBO Max. There is no The Girl Before Season 2 release date as Delaney reportedly developed the show as a miniseries.
Several outlets list The Girl Before as a miniseries, so a second season is unlikely to happen. The show also succeeds in telling the story it sets out to tell within the span of the four episodes of Season 1. We learn how Emma died and who was responsible for it. This person also gets their comeuppance in Episode 4. There are also drastic changes in the relationship between Jane and Edward by the end of the episode.
Delaney adapts the entirety of his original book for the series, and the former doesn’t have a sequel as of March 2024. So, it’s safe to presume that he thought that the story should end as it did.
