Unfortunately, on the way back, Mr. Crewe falls ill with pneumonia. Upon returning to his estate in India, he receives a letter from Carrisford revealing that the diamond mine was a failure, resulting in the loss of his fortune. The news worsens his condition, leading to his passing shortly after.
