Taylor Swift: Does She Write Her Own Songs & Music?

While fans know Taylor Swift creates some of the most relatable and amazing music and songs, they are wondering whether she writes them as well. Here is everything you need to know.

Does Taylor Swift write her own songs and music?

Yes, Taylor Swift writes her songs and music.

Taylor Swift seems to have written or co-written every song in her discography except a few cover songs, some live covers, and two guest features alongside various songs released by other artists. Some notable songs not written by her are live covers of Bette Davis Eyes, which was written by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, and Big Star, which was written by Stephony Smith.

The Bad Blood singer even clapped back at songwriter and Blur band frontman Damon Albarn in 2022 for saying that Swift “doesn’t write her own songs”. Responding to Albran’s LA Times interview, Taylor Swift took to X (formerly Twitter) to refute his claims and said that she does write “all of her own songs”.

Albarn later apologized to her, claiming his conversation with the outlet was reduced to clickbait.

Moreover, in 2019, Taylor Swift revealed in a Rolling Stone interview that she took on the task of writing the entire Speak Now album, which she released in 2010, by herself as a reaction to comments debating whether she wrote her songs or not.

In the same year, during her acceptance speech for Billboard’s Women of the Decade Award, Taylor Swift stated how she saw people trying to explain away the success of a woman in the music industry. She said:

“I saw as a female in this industry, some people will always have slight reservations about you, Whether you deserve to be there, whether a male producer or co-writer is the reason for your success, or whether it was a savvy record label, It wasn’t.”
