James Gunn recently took to Threads to clarify Peacemaker Season 2’s place in the DCU timeline, when asked by a fan. He not only confirmed the Peacemaker’s canonicity within the DCU but also mentioned when the second season takes place, saying that the events of the upcoming season will take place after 2025’s Superman.
In another thread, he said that the new season is fully DCU and will not have any connections to the old DCEU. He also addressed the placement of Viola Davis’ upcoming Waller show in the timeline, saying it will take place after the events of Peacemaker.
John Cena’s Peacemaker alongside Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller and Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle are the only three DC heroes from the old DC Extended Universe who are confirmed to be a part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Is Peacemaker Season 1 canon to the DCU?
No, Peacemaker Season 1 is not canon to the DCU.
Unfortunately, the first season of Peacemaker was released back in 2022 and is not canon to the DCU. James Gunn replied to a fan on Threads and confirmed that it was not.
This is not surprising as the end of the first season featured appearances from Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s The Flash, characters that were part of the old DCEU but are not confirmed to return for the new DC Universe under James Gunn’s purview.
However, Gunn did reveal that many of the story strands from Peacemaker’s overall journey in both DCEU and DCU would remain consistent.
