Madame Web is set to hit theaters next month, but some fans are still wondering whether it is a Spider-Man movie or a separate movie. Here is all you need to know about Dakota Johnson‘s upcoming superhero outing.
Is Madame Web a Spider-Man movie?
No, Madame Web is not a Spider-Man movie.
However, the film is set to focus on four characters who are closely associated with Spider-Man and his supporting cast in the comics, Cassandra Webb/Madame Web, Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman, Mattie Franklin/Spider-Woman, and Anya Corazon/Spider-Girl/Arana. All of these four characters possess spider-like abilities just like Spider-Man, such as the ability to climb on walls, and shoot webs, and they also have enhanced strength.
The main plot of the film will focus on Cassandra Webb, a clairvoyant and a paramedic based in Manhattan who is forced to confront her past and team up with three young women with promising futures as they confront a new mysterious enemy, Ezekiel Sims. Sims has ties to Cassandra’s mother as he was an explorer and partner of hers who was helping her research spiders in the Amazon rainforest before her death.
Does Madame Web take place in the Spider-Man universe?
Madame Web seems to take place in a Spider-Man universe, more specifically a universe where the character has not yet been born.
However, it seems as if Madame Web will take place in another universe separate from the Venom films, Kraven the Hunter and Morbius if the synopsis is anything to go by:
“Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel’s most enigmatic heroines. The thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present.”
The story of Madame Web will, however, reportedly feature two characters that are important to the Spider-Man mythos, Uncle Ben, Spider-Man’s uncle, and Mary Parker, Spider-Man’s mother, who will reportedly be played by Adam Scott and Emma Roberts, respectively.
