But looking at many Netflix shows, subscribers notice the term Limited Series attached to titles and wish to find out what that means. What does “Limited Series” mean on Netflix?
A miniseries or “Limited Series” on Netflix means that the given series will end its story with just 1 season. It won’t get a multiple-season order.
A limited series always has a predetermined story that starts and ends within a given set of episodes. Netflix has many popular miniseries that have been highly appreciated by fans and critics alike. A few among them include The Queen’s Gambit, Treason, and Tokyo Trial, among others.
All these shows are different from other regular TV shows as they aren’t renewed for multiple seasons. They are always planned to end with just one season, whereas a regular TV series is developed with the idea of an evolving story that grows its narrative and characters across multiple seasons.
A regular series could also have just 1 season if it gets canceled, like Netflix’s series 1899. But that isn’t categorized as a limited series. Another thing to remember is that even though a limited series has its story contained within one season, it can get similar sequels that tell a different story within the same genre. The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor are two limited series that fall under this category.
How many episodes do Netflix Limited Series have?
There is no predefined episode count for a limited series, but they usually have between 3 and 10 episodes.
Shows like Maid on Netflix have 10 episodes and fall under the miniseries category while others, including Ghoul and Dracula, are also considered limited series despite having just 3 episodes. But 7-8 episodes is still the popular norm for any miniseries.
