Will There Be a Wish 2 Release Date & Is It Coming Out?

Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, Wish is a Disney-animated musical fantasy film. The plot is set in the kingdom of Rosas, where King Magnifico has the final say on whose and what wish can be granted. A young woman Asha recognizes the evilness lurking within Magnifico while interviewing to be his apprentice. She unsuccessfully tries to tell others about it, before making a wish on a star. Things take an unexpected turn when the star appears before her and begins granting wishes.

Wish premiered at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on November 8, 2023, before receiving a wider theatrical release in the US on November 22, 2023. If you are wondering whether there will be Wish 2 or not, we got you covered.

Here’s all we know about Wish 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a Wish 2 release date?

There is no Wish 2 release date as it hasn’t been greenlit yet. Given the first film’s poor critical and box office performance, Wish 2 is unlikely to be made. ComingSoon will provide an update if the circumstances change.

Following its release, Wish garnered a 48% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned $82 million at the global box office against its $175–200 million budget as of early December 2023, continuing the below-average performances of Disney projects this year. The failure of Wish is also a continuation of the disappointing box-office performances of recent projects developed by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Strange World (2022) was a flop, and even Encanto (2021) reportedly failed to break even at the box office. It wasn’t until the film was released on Disney Plus that it achieved broader commercial success.

As always, the fate of a prospective sequel depends upon the performance of the original, so the chances for Wish 2 seem rather dim. However, if Wish manages to replicate Encanto’s streaming success, it can open up an array of possibilities, including, perhaps, an animated TV show.

The voice cast includes Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as King Magnifico, Alan Tudyk as Valentino, Angelique Cabral as Queen Amaya, Victor Garber as Sabino, Natasha Rothwell as Sakina, Jennifer Kumiyama as Dahlia, Harvey Guillén as Gabo, Niko Vargas as Hal, Evan Peters as Simon, Ramy Youssef as Safi, Jon Rudnitsky as Dario, Della Saba as Bazeema, and more.
