Aquaman 2 Box Office Prediction: Will The Lost Kingdom Flop or Succeed?

Aquaman 2 brings Jason Momoa back as Arthur Curry, possibly for the final time. But will his swan song as the King of Atlantis end on a high note? Will Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom come close to performing as well as the first Aquaman? Here are the latest box office projections for Aquaman 2.

How Much is Aquaman 2 predicted to make?

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s early projections suggest that it will open between $32 million and $42 million domestically, and end up with a total between $105 million and $168 million.

The aforementioned domestic numbers reported by Box Office Pro tease another underperforming DC outing. The first Aquaman movie turned out to be a smash hit, becoming the highest-grossing DC movie of all time.

It opened with $67.8 million at the domestic box office and ended up with $335 million, thanks to good word of mouth allowing it to have strong legs in the coming weeks. But the bulk of its earnings came from overseas, which enabled it to make $1.151 billion worldwide.

Compared to that, Aquaman 2’s opening predictions seem much inferior. It’ll be interesting to see if these projections rise as we get closer to the film’s release.

Will Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom flop or succeed?

Based on long-range box office predictions, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could struggle and be considered a “flop.”

The “Warner Bros.’ Quest to Build a Better ‘Aquaman’ Sequel: 3 Reshoots, Two Batmans, and Non-Stop Test Screenings” feature revealed that Aquaman 2 had a budget of $205 million before all its reshoots. The additional filming would have added more cost, and the marketing of the film would certainly raise the overall expenditure, likely sending it over $300 million.

Considering the above projections, apparent “superhero fatigue,” and the fact that DC movies haven’t performed well potentially due to knowledge of an incoming reboot, Aquaman 2 could be another “flop” following Shazam! 2, The Flash, and Blue Beetle.
