Avengers: Secret Wars Director: Is Sam Raimi Directing the MCU Movie?

After reports of Sam Raimi possibly directing 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars hit the web, fans are curious to know whether or not that is the case or if another director has been tapped to direct the upcoming MCU movie. Here is all you need to know.

Does Avengers: Secret Wars have a director yet?

No, Avengers: Secret Wars does not have a director attached to it at the time of publishing.

Despite the lack of a confirmed director for Avengers: Secret Wars, multiple names have been thrown into the mix for the role. These include the Russo Brothers, Jon Favreau, Ryan Coogler, Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, and Sam Raimi.

Of all the aforementioned names, Favreau would be the least likely candidate to take on the role as he seems currently busy with the Star Wars universe and its expansion. As for the Russo Brothers and Ryan Coogler, their involvement with the film has been shot down by Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige, who said that he has not talked to them about doing the film.

That leaves Sam Raimi, who last directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, his involvement has not yet been confirmed, and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, both of whom have expressed interest in doing the gig in a recent ComicBook interview.

Will Sam Raimi direct Avengers: Secret Wars or Doctor Strange 3?

Sam Raimi has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios to direct either Avengers: Secret Wars or Doctor Strange 3, at the time of publishing.

Reputed but semi-reliable industry insider and scooper Daniel RPK, revealed via his Patreon that Raimi was being allegedly considered by Marvel for Doctor Strange 3 but that he is also in the mix for Secret Wars. This would put him in a unique situation like Destin Daniel Cretton, where he would have to choose between both films. Cretton recently reportedly left Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, presumably to focus his full efforts on Shang-Chi 2 and Wonder Man.

Thus, if Raimi picks Doctor Strange 3 or Avengers: Secret Wars, then the other film would go to someone else.
