A Murder at the End of the World is an original story created, written, and directed by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. Despite sharing its title with multiple novels, it’s not based on any book.
The latest FX/Hulu mystery series could become the talk of the town, offering an enigmatic mystery for the fans to dive into. But even though “Murder at the End of the World” is included in multiple book titles, the series is not based on either of them.
It has characters that might seem to be coming straight out of an Agatha Christie novel. But that’s not the case at all, as Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have worked up an original story. They also direct, write, and executive produce the series.
The series follows Darby Hart, a Gen Z amateur sleuth and a tech-savvy hacker played by Emma Corin. She turns into a new kind of detective to find the killer when a supposed murder takes place at a reclusive billionaire’s exotic retreat.
The official synopsis of A Murder at the End of the World reads
“A mystery series with a new kind of detective at the helm – a Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named Darby Hart. Darby and eight other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests before the killer takes another life.”
Along with Corin, A Murder at the End of the World stars Harris Dickinson, Clive Owen, Alice Braga, Joan Chen, and Raúl Esparza, among others.
