What happened to Elias Mannix?

Elias Mannix disappears at the end of Bodies, thanks to his decision not to detonate the bomb and kill a million people, leading to a new timeline where he doesn’t exist.

For much of the series, Elias Mannix, also known as Sir Julian Harker in 1890 and 1941, discovers a time-traveling gateway that he uses to plan a bomb attack on a million Londoners and bring about a reality in 2023, where the 15-year-old version of himself knows what it is like to be loved since Mannix from the original timeline turned to a life of drug abuse and crime after his parents abandoned him.

However, Mannix’s decision not to detonate the bomb results in a chain of events where he does not travel back in time, marry Polly, or have his son Hayden, which ultimately leads to his existence’s erasure.

Does Whiteman die?

Whiteman dies after he is killed by police officers enlisted by Elias Mannix’s son Hayden. However, his existence is restored after the timeline is altered due to Mannix’s decision not to detonate the bomb.

Mannix kills Polly at Mannix/Harker’s house after she is involved in Esther’s death and confronts Mannix, who gives Whiteman the final record and asks him to keep it safe. Whiteman then answers a phone call from Hayden, who sends cops after him. The cops track him down at Copper’s pub and kill him, but not before he hides the record given to him.

However, after Mannix ends up changing the timeline by deciding not to go with his plan of detonating the bomb, a new reality is created and Whiteman is restored to existence. However, he and Esther no longer know each other.

Does DI Alfred Hillinghead die?

Yes, DI Alfred Hillinghead dies. He is killed by Sir Julian Harker/Elias Mannix.

Hillinghead is killed by Harker after the former reveals his knowledge of Harker’s true identity. However, Mannix is troubled by Hillinghead’s logical query regarding his plan and he eventually confesses his involvement in Hillinghead’s murder to Polly, who then resents him forever, leading to an unhappy marriage.
