Black Lightning Season 5 Release Date Rumors: Is It Coming Out?

Ever since Season 4 ended, the Black Lightning Season 5 release date has been anticipated by many fans of the show. The series follows Jefferson Pierce’s titular persona who has the power to harness electricity. But after being forced out of retirement into the life of crime-fighting, will he be back for another season?

Here’s all the Black Lightning Season 5 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.

Is there a Black Lightning Season 5 release date?

There is no Black Lightning Season 5 release date as the series was canceled after its 4th season.

Unfortunately for fans of Black Lightning from the Arrowverse, The CW pulled the plug on the series on November 20, 2020, due to a constant drop in its viewership numbers.

Back in 2021, showrunner Salim Akil discussed that he had plans for at least 2 more seasons. He told Deadline:

“We’ve always had ideas for a Season 5, or a Season 6. We’ve always had places that we want to go. I always plan like that. I never wait; I’m always thinking about the next season. So, we could have gone on to a Season 5.”

But alas, Season 5 will not happen! The only Arrowverse show that’s currently alive and is posting a strong viewership is Superman & Lois. But Black Lightning and several others including Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Arrow have all either ended or been canceled.

Black Lightning starred Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce / Black Lightning, Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce / Thunder / Blackbird, China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce / Lightning, Christine Adams as Lynn, Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III as Tobias Whale, Jordan Calloway as Khalil Payne / Painkiller, and James Remar as Peter Gambi, among others.

Is Black Lightning Season 5 coming out soon?

No, Black Lightning Season 5 isn’t confirmed to release on The CW any time soon.

The official synopsis of the series reads:

“Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Ann McClain), and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero in his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning, but he left the Superhero days behind. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought.”
