Gen V Episode 5 Ending Explained & Spoilers: What Happened at the End?

Here is the Gen V episode 5 ending explained, featuring plenty of spoilers. Dive into the details below to learn what happened at the end of the latest episode, including the situation with Cate.

Gen V Episode 5 Ending Explained

Why did Cate betray Andre and the others in Gen V episode 5?

Cate betrayed Andre and her friends because she was working for Dean Shetty, and possibly even Rich Brinkerhoff before that.

Episode 4 had a glitchy ending that left people on a major cliffhanger. One moment, the students of Godolkin were trying to stop Sam from killing Dr. Cardosa, and the other moment, Marie and Jordan woke up in bed with each other.

The promo for episode 5 teased that it was Rufus who must have wiped their memories as he was even seen with Dean Shetty. But it was later revealed he was just a ruse set up by the writers as Cate was the one working for the Dean.

She used her powers to make Marie, Emma, Andre, and Jordan forget about Sam. Dean Shetty and perhaps some other higher-ups employed her to stay close to Golden Boy and other high-ranked students. She was an informant for the Dean and kept the likes of Golden Boy, Andre, and others in check. That is why she tried to stop Andre from going after Sam in episode 3.

Towards the end of episode 5, when Jordan, Marie, and Andre make a move on Rufus, Emma calls Marie to reveal the truth. Sam disclosed that it was Cate who put gaps in everyone’s memory. She even made Luke forget about his brother. But she regretted doing all that over the years and restored Andre’s memory for the same reason.

Dean Shetty made her believe in the lie that she and others at Vought are the protagonists here. Hence, Cate agreed to betray her friends.

What is Dr. Cardosa’s virus, and what does it do?

Dr. Cardosa is developing a virus that might be able to control all Supes with Compound V in their bodies.

Episode 5 revealed that Dr. Cardosa was very close to perfecting a virus that might allow Vought and Godolkin to control students and other Supes. This virus could come into play in Gen V’s finale, and even in The Boys season 4.
