The series has been leading up to Anna’s trial, where she is found guilty and sentenced to four to 12 years in prison. The season finale ends by revealing that Anna was released from prison on February 11, 2021. A few weeks later, she was taken into custody by ICE for overstaying her visa.
As the series has already told the story it set out to tell, there aren’t that many reasons for its return. However, plenty of shows originally billed as a limited series have gotten more seasons because of its initial success, and the possibility of that happening with Inventing Anna can’t be entirely ruled out. After all, Anna is a real person, and her story continues after her release from prison.
