When does Castlevania: Nocturne take place?
The events of Netflix’s Castlevania: Nocturne occur in the late 1700s during the French Revolution.
The latest video game-inspired animated series takes place hundreds of years after the original. For those uninitiated, Castlevania’s events occurred in the 1400s in Wallachia (a historical region within modern-day Romania). In it, we witnessed the likes of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard uniting to take Dracula down for good.
After the execution of his human wife, the Lord of the Vampires decided to cast his revenge upon on the land of Wallachia, and the aforementioned trio stopped him. Now in Castlevania: Nocturne, we follow another extremely popular character from the game, Richter Belmont. He is the descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, who clearly started a family by the end of the original series.
Richter’s origin story began roughly 320 years after his ancestors. In Nocturne, we’ll catch him trying to put an end to Dracula after his yet another resurrection. The series’ cast is led by Edward Bluemel, who voices Richter Belmont. Other voice actors in the series include Zahn McClarnon, Sophie Skelton, Nastassja Kinski, Richard Dormer, Thuso Mbedu, and Pixie Davies, among others.

Castlevania: Nocturne begins streaming on September 28, 2023, on Netflix.
