Wonka be released on December 15, 2023, and fans of the classic children’s story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, from which the movie takes its main character and inspiration, are curious if there will be a release date for Wonka 2. The prequel movie will document the origins of the chocolatier before he became the well-known Willy Wonka, so there will be more stories to tell.

Is there a Wonka 2 release date?
Considering the first Wonka film is only going to be released this December, it is too early to say if a sequel will be in the works and there hasn’t been an official release date announcement. While it is difficult to predict the timeline of the potential sequel’s release, there are still chances of the Wonka movie making a return with a sequel.
The upcoming Wonka movie might be inspired by the Roald Dahl novel, but it’s still an original story. This makes it easier for further exploration of the source material and hence, the potential for more storylines, documenting more of Wonka’s life before he entered into the chocolate world. Moreover, director Paul King definitely hoped for a sequel.
In an interview with Games Radar, King was optimistic about a sequel, considering much of Roald Dahl’s works were left to be delved into. He said, “Dahl was definitely interested in taking Willy Wonka on. There’s drafts that didn’t really go anywhere, and there’s a short story. He didn’t really write sequels, but this was the one book where he clearly felt there was more in the tank there. There’s an awful lot more Wonka story that we have that we would like to tell.”
King further expressed his interest in making a sequel if there is enough demand from fans after the December 2023 release of the first film. He said, “I would definitely like to do more. And I’d like to spend more time in this world, and meet some more Oompa Loompas.” While nothing is confirmed, the franchise has definitely proved to be appealing to movie-goers, and a second Wonka film is definitely a possibility.
