However, to fans’ respite, Netflix gave closure to Uhtred’s story by releasing a movie called The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die in April 2023. Considering the series garnered a massive fan following over the years, it was important for the platform to provide a satisfactory end to the franchise.
The movie is based on The Saxon Stories novels by Bernard Cornwell. Although he wrote 13, the initial plan was to adapt the first 10 of Cornwell’s novels at a rate of two books per season. When the series wrapped up after Season 5, the author was still writing the final three books. So, Netflix decided to end Uhtred’s story in Seven Kings Must Die, where it took key events from the final three books.
