Is Special Ops: Lioness Based on a True Story?

Fans are asking “Is Special Ops: Lioness based on a true story?” and it’s understandable why. With the heroic feats achieved in the show, it’s only natural to wonder if they really happened. How close is the Spec Ops: Lioness show to the real world and does it draw from someone’s life events? Here’s what you need to know.

Is Special Ops: Lioness inspired by a true story?

No, Special Ops: Lioness is not based on a true story.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan roots the narrative of Special Ops: Lioness in a realistic conflict. However, the events and the story of the characters in the series are entirely fictionalized. The series only uses the “Team Lioness” from a military program that exists in the real world. Everyone included in the team is original and has not been inspired by any real-life person.

In the show, we follow the lead character Joe’s personal and professional life. As mentioned above, the show brings the Lioness Program to life in its own way, where young marines are enlisted and trained to go undercover and fight the war on terror from within. Joe acts as the station chief while training and managing all of the operatives.

Working with her is a passionate young Marine, Cruz Manuelos, who gets recruited into the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team. Together, Joe and her team Lioness help bring down a terrorist organization from within, risking their lives by going under cover.
