Will Chris Evans Return to the MCU as Captain America?

Many fans hope to one day see Chris Evans return to the MCU as Captain America, but what are the chances that it will really happen? Even though he survived the events of Avengers: Endgame, he hasn’t been around in Phases 4 and 5, which has left people asking whether he’ll be back as Captain America ever. Well, it’s surely a possibility, but may not happen until Phase 6.

Chris Evans’ comments on his potential Captain America return

Chris Evans has said that he could return to the MCU as Captain America, but it would be a “tall order” and would need to be “perfect.”

Until now, Evans has been very reluctant to go back to playing Captain America. He has maintained the notion of doing it someday, but not anytime soon. Back in 2022, he stated that returning as Captain America would be a “tall order,” and would have to be perfect. He claimed that he’d rather be back as Johnny Storm first.

As recently as August 2023, Evans was asked about his MCU return at the C2E2 fan convention. He said (via Variety):

“It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply. He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it…it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well.”

He also added:

“As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people. It doesn’t quite feel right right now.”

So, fans can hope for his return, but shouldn’t expect it to happen in Phase 5.

Where is Steve Rogers in the MCU and could he return?

Recently, credible MCU Insider CanWeGetSomeToast revealed that Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World might answer where old man Steve Rogers is. The film may or may not deliver a cameo from him. It could also lay the groundwork for his return in Phase 6.

So far, the MCU has only addressed Steve Rogers a couple of times. Spider-Man: Far From Home implied that most of the world thinks he died in the Endgame battle. Meanwhile, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier teased that he might be on the moon. So, fans have to wait to find out about exact his whereabouts.

It’s likely that Avengers: Secret Wars will bring him back since that is supposed to be the biggest MCU project of all time. It is expected to unite the OG Avengers along with several other Marvel heroes from the multiverse. Since Steve Rogers created a new timeline by living with Peggy, we could see that version of Steve from his new branched timeline assemble with the rest of the Avengers in Secret Wars. So ideally, Chris Evans might be back as Cap in 2027, but nothing is officially confirmed.

For more Marvel content, The Marvels movie has reportedly had a major cameo cut from the first act. Also, here’s why Elizabeth Olsen is ready to move on from the MCU.
