Blue Beetle Setting: Where the Movie Takes Place & Filming Location

With Blue Beetle soaring into theaters later this week, fans look for more information about the story setting. Where does Blue Beetle take place? And where has the movie been filmed? Here’s what you need to know about the Blue Beetle setting.

Where does Blue Beetle take place?

Blue Beetle takes place in Palmera City.

Unlike in the comics, where Jaime Reyes’ (Xolo Maridueña) adventures go down in El Paso, the upcoming movie will feature a brand-new location for the titular hero. The producers’ aim was to grant Jaime his own iconic place, paralleling the significance of iconic superhero cities like Gotham for Batman and Metropolis for Superman. Palmera City was first shown in the film’s trailer, which opens with an “I love Palmera City” sign. If you wonder, Palmera City is not a real place and was created expressly for the film.

Where was Blue Beetle filmed?

Blue Beetle was mainly filmed in Decatur, Georgia, but also in El Paso, Texas, as well as Puerto Rico.

The film might be set in Palmera City, but fans will recognize some familiar places from El Paso, Texas. The Wilder Studios in Decatur, Georgia, served as the main location for the principal photography. The choice to also film in Puerto Rico might turn out to be an interesting one as the Caribbean island could offer a unique twist in contrast to usual U.S. or European superhero movie backdrops. Filming for the DC Universe movie mainly occur in 2022.

The Ángel Manuel Soto-directed film will open in theaters on August 18, 2023. The story follows a college graduate who accidentally discovers a powerful alien technology that grants him incredible powers. But villains are always on the watch.
