Kingdom Hearts III Release Date Confirmed for 2018

A brand-new trailer for the highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts III has arrived from the Level Up! panel at D23 Expo, confirming that the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III release date will officially be during 2018. In addition, a brand new Disney world was confirmed for the sequel with the characters and locations from Toy Story set to be featured.

The much-anticipated addition to the Kingdom Hearts franchise will also take Sora and a cast of Disney companions to the urban setting of San Fransokyo, home of lovable robot Baymax, continuing the events of the animated film Big Hero 6. Fans will also be able to take to the world of Tangled in the game.

Previously, the game’s co-director and designer Tai Yasue revealed that nothing from from Disney’s wheelhouse (including Marvel and Star Wars) was off limits for the game.

“I can’t go into specifics, but there’s a LOT of new Disney stuff and we have our plates full. Theres a lot to consider – we’re looking at all of Disney, the new ones as well, they have a lot of pull and draw….We have to come up with a world that has a lot of originality. We want variety in our new Kingdom Hearts, so we don’t want too many of one sort of world, that would look the same. For each world there has to be some meaning for it, in the plot; in Birth By Sleep, for instance, in the Cinderella scene, the characters learn something specific by relating to Cinderella. Also, gameplay-wise, is that world something that would make gameplay fun? There’s a lot I can’t say, but there’s so much to consider.”

Kingdom Hearts III will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One upon release.
