Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves releases next year

An arcade classic, it’s been over 20 years since the last installment in the Fatal Fury series. SNK acknowledged the arcade origins and long absence in the opening to City of the Wolves announcement trailer, which premiered Sunday. It also previewed the new fighting game’s gameplay and confirmed its early 2025 release window. City of the Wolves is also the first Fatal Fury game to feature an English voice option.

The announcement trailer featured a match between returning characters Rock Howard and Terry Bogard. Terry was one of the original three playable characters featured in the first Fatal Fury game from 1991. He’s also the only character to appear in every installment. His stepson Rock was introduced as a side character in Fatal Fury 3 and was Mark of the Wolves’ protagonist.

Both characters appear in Monday’s character trailer alongside fighters Hotaru Fubata, Tizoc, and Precha. Hotaru and Tizoc were both introduced in Mark of the Wolves, while Precha is original to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While not shown in the trailers, Andy Bogard, Billy Kane, Joe Higashi, and Kain Heinlein are also slated to return.

Hotaru specializes in Chinese Kenpo and is the little sister of Gato, though it’s unclear if the latter also returns. Tazoc is a famous masked wrestler, though he’s a bit “washed up” in Fatal Fury compared to his King of Fighters appearance. Finally, Precha, being the new character, is still a bit of a mystery. However, she’s a practitioner of Muay Thai, and some fans noticed her moves resemble Joe Higashi’s. This suggests some connection between the two.
