Many games are still getting current-gen upgrades, but not many of them come unannounced. Bandai Namco opted to go down that sneakier route as it just quietly released PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades for Man of Medan and Little Hope, its first two entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology. Both are free for owners of the last-gen versions.

As noted by PlayStation Game Size, both titles suddenly dropped on the PlayStation Store. The listing notes that they support difficulty settings, quick-time event warnings, a better user interface, faster walking speeds, stronger accessibility options, and more, meaning they are slightly more than simple ports. Man of Medan‘s “Flooded” chapter has now been extended and has some new deaths in it. However, it doesn’t appear as though Little Hope has any new content.

PS4 saves will transfer to the PS5 version, but previously earned trophies do not automatically unlock, as was the case in House of Ashes when that feature was eventually added. Collectibles also do not transfer. Xbox’s Smart Delivery means that those ports likely won’t have such issues.

House of Ashes was the first entry to be on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and The Devil in Me, the installment releasing on November 18, will also be coming out both generations of hardware. Since they are all part of the same series, it seemed likely that Supermassive Games would go back and update the first two titles with features implemented in later entries.

Even though they came with no announcement, their release isn’t exactly a surprise. PlayStation Game Size revealed Little Hope‘s existence earlier in September. Exophase, a site that tracks trophies and achievements, also posted their trophy lists earlier before they went live.
