This morning, Yoshimi Yasuda, former CEO of Kadokawa Games, announced that Grasshopper Manufacture’s cult classic, Lollipop Chainsaw, will be getting remade.

Yasuda, who produced the original game, made a lengthy statement on Twitter, revealing a number of details about the upcoming remake. It’s set to release sometime next year, is being supported by Warner Bros., and will feature more “realistic” graphics. While Lollipop Chainsaw originally featured plenty of licensed music, Yasuda said that the remake will only be able to feature a few licensed songs, with the rest of the soundtrack being made up of new tracks.

The original Lollipop Chainsaw was written by Masahiro Yuki and James Gunn, the latter of whom would go on to write and direct the Guardians of the Galaxy series of films and The Suicide Squad, as well as numerous other projects. James Gunn has announced on Twitter that neither he nor developer Suda 51 are currently involved in the remake, and that he only heard of it a couple of weeks ago. That tweet is below:
