Johnny Cage Action Figure Mortal Kombat 12

New Mortal Kombat Project Possibly Hinted at by Johnny Cage Voice Actor

Andrew Bowen, the current voice behind Mortal Kombat‘s resident movie star Johnny Cage, recently took to Twitter to tease work on a mysterious new project. His short video consists of a shot of the famous Warner Bros. water tower (Yakko, Wakko, and Dot were sleeping) backed with a quote and some music fitting of the Mortal Kombat series, which many are interpreting as a tease for Mortal Kombat 12.

Bowen has since deleted the tweet, though. However, it had music that wouldn’t be out of place in a Mortal Kombat game with the quote, “Every deadly technique. It’s savage combat.” Having “combat” in there along with the WB water tower, his history as Cage, and the later removal of the tweet do strongly imply that he’s laying down vocals for Mortal Kombat 12. However, it’s not the only possibility.

Mortal Kombat is one of the biggest gaming properties at Warner Bros., so Johnny Cage could be showing up in all sorts of places that still fit with this tease. Perhaps the actor is voicing the character for a spot in MultiVersus, WB’s Smash Bros.-like platform fighter. However, even though it doesn’t disprove that Cage could be involved in the game somehow, a previous leak indicated that Scorpion was making his way to the game. It’s also possible that he could also be helping out with an unannounced animated project, but if it is related to Johnny Cage and Mortal Kombat, Joel McHale has voiced Cage in the last two animated films.

However, even with ample skepticism, there are more than a few signs that point to Mortal Kombat 12 being NetherRealm Studios’ next game. GamesBeat reporter and leaker Jeff Grubb noted that NetherRealm was favoring Mortal Kombat 12 over another Injustice game because of the hesitancy of working with another Warner Bros. property while the fighting game developer’s future with company is uncertain. A NetherRealm developer also seemed to have leaked part of the game through a hastily deleted desk photo with icons that pointed to MK12 and Reptile, a fan-favorite character that wasn’t playable in MK11.

Furthermore, Mortal Kombat 12 is one of the many games revealed in the infamous Nvidia leak. A good chunk of the unannounced games on that list have come to pass, like the Resident Evil 4 remake, Dragon’s Dogma II, Street Fighter 6, Crysis 4, and Kingdom Hearts 4, so it may only be a matter of time. Of course, Injustice 3 is also on that list, and it’s entirely possible that Johnny Cage takes the same multiverse trip that Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero have in the past into the DC Universe or that NetherRealm is using the actor for another role (which it often does). Regardless of what it is, it’s still a mystery what NetherRealm is working on and it’s unclear when the team will emerge from its realm and confirm what it is actually working on.
