Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay Snippets Show New Footage and Enemy Redesigns

Capcom only just revealed the Resident Evil 4 remake, but now the company has provided even more information about the action horror game. Capcom’s showcase contained some snippets of the title, showing a tiny bit of the remake in action.

Capcom said during the show that it is “carefully preserving what makes the original title special, while updating it with modern flourishes for everyone to enjoy when it launches in 2023.” Director Yasuhiro Anpo and Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi then went over the game’s story, while also providing short peeks of the game along with some new art. They said that in order to “truly bring out the concept of ‘terror of people controlled by madness,’ the ganado have been completely redesigned.” These redesigns were mostly cloaked in shadows, as it seems Capcom wants to save some more for later on.

This bit then led into a brief bit of gameplay with the signature third-person, over-the-shoulder camera. The footage showed Leon walking before he stopped in the middle of a dark and brooding forest, which matches what Capcom said it wanted to evoke with the game (as well as an earlier report stating that it would be scarier).

“We want to nail the feeling of loneliness and fear of not knowing what lies ahead, even more so than the original.”

Capcom said there will also still be thrilling battles, much like the recent Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes. Anpo and Hirabayashi then cut back in and told players to look forward to future announcements.
