PlayStation State of Play Announced for Next Week

It seems as though the rumors were accurate. Sony announced that it would be holding a PlayStation State of Play next week on Thursday, June 2 at 3 p.m. PT.

The company went into more detail on the PlayStation Blog. The presentation will be about 30 minutes and focus on third-party games and PlayStation VR2, including “several” games for the virtual reality headset.

Of course, no hints were given about what games would be there. Only one PS VR2 game has been officially revealed — Horizon Call of the Mountain — which leaves tons of room for reveals and ports of games on other VR headsets.

The third-party games are harder to nail down. However, Games Beat reporter and insider Jeff Grubb noted that Street Fighter 6 might show up. Sony and Capcom are used to revealing games together, including Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil Village, just to name a few. Street Fighter V was also a PlayStation 4 console exclusive, too. Capcom even said that players could look forward to new information in the summer.

There’s also the possibility of Final Fantasy XVI showing up, as Square Enix said the trailer is on its way after missing its spring deadline. Similarly, there’s supposed to be some Final Fantasy VII news in June, according to Tetsuya Nomura. That doesn’t mean that an announcement of the second part of the remake is coming, but it is something to keep in mind.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that this isn’t an E3-like presentation. Those are called “showcases” and they’re where Sony unleashes its biggest titles, as it did last year with Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. Such a presentation has not yet been announced.
