The Witcher 3 Celebrates Anniversary by Revealing PS5, XSX Release Window

The Witcher 3 PS5 & XSX Release Window Revealed in Anniversary Celebration

After being delayed indefinitely — a framing that CD Projekt Red took umbrage with — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s current-gen upgrades for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC have gotten a more narrow release window. The enhanced ports will come out sometime in Q4 2022.

The new window was revealed through a tweet on the official Witcher Twitter account. It celebrates the seventh anniversary of the original release before simply stating that the new versions are planned for Q4 2022. It didn’t list a specific month, though.

The Polish developer had previously said that they were delayed “until further notice” and development on them was being brought in house. That sort of an ominous wording worried some, given how Cyberpunk 2077 was pushed a bunch and was still a buggy mess at launch, but some speculate that it had to do with how Saber Interactive’s Russian team was handling the upgrade.

CD Projekt Red condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and donated to humanitarian aid efforts, but it’s unclear if this move is related to the war. The two developers worked together in the past, as that Saber team ported The Witcher 3 to the Nintendo Switch, making the decision to pull the Russian developer off this project in the middle of it a little weirder.

Regardless, the free upgrade is going to contain a host of technical and visual improvements and even have items from the Netflix series. But it looks like players will have to wait longer to see how all of that shakes out.
