Gotham Knights Confirmed Current-Gen Only, PS4 & Xbox One Versions Canceled

Gotham Knights PS4 & Xbox One Versions Canceled

Gotham Knights was originally announced for a whole bevy of systems, but it won’t be making its way to all of them. Warner Bros. confirmed through the new trailer that the action role-playing game would only be releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and not on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it comes out on October 25.

Warner Bros. was rather straightforward for the reason behind it, stating that those ports were cut in order to “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience.” No further details were given.

The Taiwanese video games rating board did hint that this was the case, as it only listed the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. None of the game’s store listings or social channels contained platforms at all, which further lent credence to the idea that it might be skipping the previous (and aging) generation.

This isn’t the first time a Warner Bros. game has dropped the previous batch of systems. 2015’s Mortal Kombat X was originally planned to come out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, the publisher kicked those older versions into The Pit, as the team was “not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game.”

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also a current-gen exclusive game. Warner Bros. didn’t announce platforms for Wonder Woman, but, given these trends and the lack of even the vaguest release window, it is also unlikely to come out on the PS4 and Xbox One, meaning DC fans with a PS4 or Xbox One are going to have to upgrade soon to play the next slate of comic book games.
