Tiny Tina's Wonderlands to Feature Full Cross-Play Compatibility

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Will Feature Full Cross-Play Support

Gearbox Software CEO and President Randy Pitchford took to social media to confirm that the upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will fully support cross-play on all platforms when it launches on March 25, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This means players from every system can play co-op together.

Pitchford’s latest tweets thanked his partners at 2K Games and first-party companies, including Sony, for working together to make sure fans on any platform can play. He also asked that players “take it easy” on Gearbox if there are issues since “none of the platforms were designed for this.” Gearbox has done “impossible work” to make full cross-platform play happen, according to him, but it is still “new territory” for the team.

In a follow-up reply to a fan asking about potential cross-play support on older games like Borderlands 3, Pitchford noted that Borderlands 3 has always supported cross-play, but that he now sees the addition of PlayStation being added to the list of platforms as “inevitable.”

This news comes after a long history of Pitchford and Gearbox notoriously not being able to add cross-play functionality to PlayStation. In May 2021, Pitchford announced that Borderlands 3 had been approved for cross-play across a variety of platforms, but that “the publisher” was requiring the company to remove cross-play support for PlayStation consoles ahead of its certification.

At the time, he didn’t specify what publisher he was talking about, but the context and Sony’s history with cross-platform play implies that it was indeed Sony. However, as more and more games begin to support the functionality, it seems as if every company is loosening up its restrictions.
