Returnal’s Latest Patch Fixes Trophies, Rebalances Biomes

The next generation of games has been slow going when it comes to new releases that push the envelope on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Thankfully, there are some standouts, like Housemarque’s third-person roguelike Returnal. Full of particle effects and unique functionality thanks to the DualSense Controller, it’s the unique PlayStation 5 exclusive that early adopters have been waiting for. However, it’s not perfect yet.

Developers at Housemarque have constantly been patching the game to fix various issues since its release on April 30. Because of the game’s three-hour runs, ironing out bugs that could erase tons of progress is vital to making Returnal function as intended. In addition to stabilizing what’s already there, the developers have fixed a few other issues in the latest patch.

Check out the full Returnal 1.3.3 patch notes:

-Fixed an issue where certain Trophies might not unlock under specific gameplay conditions. Note: missing Trophies will need to be replayed to unlock.

-Multiple stability fixes addressing rare crashes/hangs.

-Fixed issue with pre-order suits occasionally blocking item collection and door opening.

-Fixed incorrect healing behavior when resting in Helios.

-Configuration changes to increase the number of scout corpses available in all biomes.

-Fixed issues with certain custom controller mappings.

-Numerous minor fixes and improvements.

Highlights from the latest Returnal patch include fixing the functionality of pre-order suits, adjusting healing when the player returns to their ship, and ironing out issues with custom controls. Housemarque promises that more fixes and improvements are on the way, thanking fans for their tremendous support in the process.

One feature that’s not included in this patch is the ability to save in the middle of a mission, something that many players are hoping will eventually come to Returnal. Roguelikes are known for their replayability, and three hours is definitely on the long side when it comes to going through the game once. It’s simply a lot of progress to lose because the phone rings or the pizza arrives.
