The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima get new release dates
After initially delaying the highly-anticipated sequel indefinitely due to the global pandemic, Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed new release dates for The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima for summer 2020, according to the official PlayStation Blog!
In the announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst expressed his gratitude and excitement for developers Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions for their work in getting the games turned around despite challenging times.
“I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.”
Ghost of Tsushima will apparently begin with the Mongol empire’s attack on the island of Tsushima. Throughout the adventure, on-screen titles will inform gamers on how much time has passed since the invasion. Time will also pass as players explore the open-world.
Sucker Punch Productions’ action-adventure title takes place in 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan, until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.
The game made a big splash at the 2019 Game Awards and is expected to launch this summer on July 17, 2020, on the PlayStation 4.
In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is now 19 and has found a semblance of peace and normality living in Jackson. She’s had a chance to be a teenager and forge lasting relationships. When that peace is disrupted by a violent act, Ellie is thrust into a brutal journey of retribution, fueled by a need to bring those that have wronged her to justice, pushing her to her very limits. From the way Ellie plays to the way she navigates through this hostile world, you’re going to feel her physical, emotional, and mental state expressed through every facet of gameplay.
The Last of Us Part II is set to hit shelves on June 19!
