Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Broadway Debut set for April 22, 2018

After previously announcing a planned spring 2018 opening, Pottermore brings word that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open on Broadway on Sunday April 22 at the Lyric Theatre in New York. The prestigious theatre is currently undergoing a complete transformation, with the venue being entirely renovated for the premiere.

Tickets will go on sale this fall and can be purchased only through the official Cursed Child website. Full details of when tickets can be purchased will be announced at a later date.

The West End production of “Cursed Child” recently won a record-breaking nine Olivier Awards, including Best New Play and Best Director.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne, based on an original, new story devised by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. The play opened at London’s Palace Theatre back in 2016.
