Join Andy Serkis’ Live-Reading of The Hobbit for Charity This Friday
Deadline brings word that Andy Serkis, best known for his work in The Lord of the Rings and The Planet of the Apes franchises, will be giving a continuous live-reading of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit for charity. You can check out Serkis’ post below!
Serkis is planning to read The Hobbit from start to finish with no breaks, expected to take around 12 hours, as he tries to raise money for UK charities NHS Charities Together and Best Beginnings.
“So many of us are struggling in isolation during the lockdown. While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12-hour armchair marathon across Middle Earth whilst raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need,” he said.
Serkis is asking fans to donate through a GoFundMe campaign that explains he will be beginning his live-read at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 8th BST (5 a.m. ET/ 2 a.m. PT).
NHS Charities Together is the umbrella organization that brings together all of the official charities of the UK health service, while Best Beginnings works to support babies, toddlers, pregnant families, and new parents while aiming to reduce inequality.
