Based out of San Francisco, Super7 began as a toy magazine in 2001 and then a store in 2004. Since then their lines have expanded to include such nostalgic pop culture brands as Alien, G.I. Joe, Hellboy, Masters of the Universe, Planet of the ApesRobotech, Street Fighter and a re-introduction of the classic M.U.S.C.L.E. figures.

The Masters of the Universe toy brand was launched by Mattel in 1982 as a blend of fantasy and sci-fi tropes set in the fictional world of Eternia, with Prince Adam’s alter ego He-Man and his battle against the evil forces of arch-villain Skeletor at the center. It became one of the first major transmedia franchises, spawning comic books and two wildly popular animated series from Filmation: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983-1984) and She-Ra: Princess of Power (1985-1986). By the time a Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren came out in 1987 the MOTU fad had fizzled out, and later animated series failed to capitalize on a new generation of children: The New Adventures of He-Man (1990-1991) and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002). In 2008 Mattel began marketing a new series of nostalgic Masters of the Universe Classics figures to adult collectors, and in 2016 Super7 took over the license. A new big budget live-action Masters of the Universe film has been in development since 2007, with the Nee Brothers currently set to direct for a 2019 release.
