Mini-Review:
I’m a huge “Predator” fan. It’s one of my all-time favorite films. I love the simplicity of the story and how much they were able to do with it. I loved the alien design by Stan Winston. I loved the colorful cast of characters (and the fact that two of them became governors). I loved all the classic one liners just dripping with testosterone (“I ain’t got time to bleed.”) I loved the big final battle between Dutch and the Predator. Few films have been able to match the intensity of the scenes. “Predator” delivered scares by building suspense, leaving a lot to the imagination, and ultimately topping your imagination by shocking you with gore and an unprecedented alien design. It’s no wonder we’re still getting Predator movies today. It was a landmark sci-fi / action film that influenced a generation of filmmakers.

“Predator” has already been released on Blu-ray once back in 2008, but it didn’t have any of the bonus features that this “Ultimate Hunter Edition” does. If you’re a “Predator” fan like me, then you probably already own the 2-Disc “Collector’s Edition” DVD which was released in 2004. All of the bonus features on that are included here. We get John McTiernan’s commentary, the “If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It” featurette, the deleted scenes, etc. So what’s new? We get “Predator: Evolution Of A Species” and a sneak peek at the “Predators” sequel. Both are interesting and feature Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal. They talk about their favorite moments from the first film, how it influenced the sequels, and more. It’s not reason alone to buy the Blu-ray if you already own the DVD, but I think any owner of a Blu-ray player will want to add “Predator” to their collection. If you’re going to buy it, this is the version to get.
