Mini-Review:

I remember when the “Naked Gun” movies first hit theaters, they said they were based on the “Police Squad!” TV series which I had never heard of. Turns out it was with good reason. There were a whopping six episodes back in 1982. So, like me, most people probably never saw them. Well, now’s your chance. If you’re a fan of those “Naked Gun” or “Airplane” movies, you’ll want to check out “Police Squad!” It features a lot of what you loved about the movies – Leslie Nielsen, bizarre sight gags, word play, and parody of cop TV shows. (Sorry, no O.J. Simpson here.) While it’s a little watered down for TV, they use many of the same jokes you saw in the films. The TV show also includes amusing cameos in the opening credits by actors like Lorne Greene, William Conrad, and others. They also freeze at the end of each episode with more and more funny results.

There are a few bonus features included. You’ll find a modern interview with Nielsen, a gag reel, casting tests, and photo galleries. There’s also a long featurette showing how they did one of the more elaborate closing freeze frames.
