Synopsis:

This season originally aired in 2002-2003. The following is from the DVD cover:

“Make an appointment with SCRUBS. Nominated for two Emmy® Awards in its second year, the hilarious sitcom is “irreverent and widely inventive,” raves TV Guide. Will J.D. get together with Elliot, and will Carla finally accept Turk’s wedding proposal? The wacky staff of Sacred Heart Hospital is back and they’ve brought along some guest stars (Heather Locklear, Tom Cavanagh, and John Ritter) for a booster shot of laughs. Enjoy all 22 episodes of the SCRUBS sensational second season — with the original, unedited music. Overflowing with great bonus features, including a one-on-one with John C. McGinley, and outtakes and deleted scenes, this spectacular DVD box set offers the best kind of contagious comedy.”

Scrubs: The Complete Second Season is rated TV-14.

The Series:

All of my comments about the Complete First Season apply to the Second Season of Scrubs. The show is still funny, fast paced, and it features a great cast. It’s a strange mix of comedy, music, and drama, but it works. If you already own the First Season DVD, then you know whether or not the Second Season is worth adding to your collection. If you don’t own it, you probably want to start there before buying this Second Season DVD.

The Extras:

There are an impressive number of bonus features on this DVD. Typically they skimp on extras for TV show releases, but this one delivers a lot. Here’s a rundown:

One-On-One With John C. McGinley – In this interview, the actor discusses how he got the role in the first place, how he changed the character from what was originally pitched, and more. He also talks a little about his other films and I was surprised to realize what all he had been in.

Music Stylings – Featurette On Music’s Role In The Show – Just like the title says, this feature discusses how music is used on the show. They talk about the barbershop quartet that frequently sings, their use of pop music to underline key scenes, and the use of songs in the fantasy sequences.

Scrubbed Out — Exclusive Deleted Scenes – Deleted scenes from various episodes are spread throughout the DVD set.

Practice, Practice, Malpractice –- Hilarious Outtakes – This is your standard offering of flubbed lines, falls on the set, and practical jokes.

Secrets And Lies — Behind-The-Scenes Stories And Jokes – This is a surprisingly candid look at some of the diva moments that the actors have gone through behind the scenes on the show. They talk about temper tantrums, jokes that backfired, and more.

A Rare Condition — Behind The Scenes On Production Design, Wardrobe, And Stunts – This featurette talks about how they shoot within a real former hospital building. Their dressing rooms are in old patient rooms, they transform other rooms into apartment sets, and more. Also discussed are the wardrobes and the variety of stunts. They even reveal how two stunt people got married after doing a bungee jump stunt for the show.

Imagination Gone Wild – The Cast Gives Exclusive Insights Into Dream Sequences – This highlights their favorite and least favorite dream sequences.

J.D.’s Mojo – This featurette talks about all the beautiful women that J.D. has had relationships with on the show.

Also included among the bonus features are “Alternate Lines, A Second Opinion” and a variety of Audio Commentaries with the Cast and Creators on several episodes.

The Bottom Line:

Scrubs: The Complete Second Season should please fans of the series.
