Sales of the $100 million plus comedy smash American Wedding tied the knot for the frisky “American Pie” franchise, making it the biggest DVD comedy franchise of all time with three day sales of three million units.
“As fans of the billion dollar ‘American Pie’ franchise have come to expect, ‘American Wedding’ raises the bar on DVD bonus features,” said Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Video. “It was the filmmakers’ original vision to script and shoot unrated elements specifically for the DVD during the theatrical production of the film. Fans of the franchise have clearly responded to the off-the-wall humor, making ‘American Pie’ the number #1 comedy franchise of all-time.”
Universal Studios Home Video ushered in the January 2nd release of American Wedding with a star-studded New Year’s Eve launch event captured live on Fox’s “America’s Party,” hosted by Ryan Seacrest (American Idol). The event, featuring the star of the unrated DVD, dominatrix Nikki Ziering, was attended by newly engaged bachelors and bachelorettes from around the country who submitted their fantasy bachelor party story to their local radio station. Winners received an all-expenses paid trip to celebrate the ultimate New Year’s Eve Bachelor and Bachelorette Party on the Las Vegas strip.
The high profile launch celebration, watched by over 300,000 revelers plus millions from home, kicked-off an American Wedding DVD and VHS buying frenzy.
