Vin Diesel comedy The Pacifier, released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, topped the sales and rental charts its first week in stores. The Pacifier, which grossed $112.5 million in theaters, is the third $100 million-plus comedy to hit video since April.
Tyler Perry’s Diary of Mad Black Woman, from Lions Gate Entertainment, finished a strong No. 2 on the preliminary national sales chart. The two direct-to-video releases by Lions Gate that same week – Madea’s Class Reunion and Madea’s Family Reunion, finished in the top 10 as well.
The Pacifier scored an easy victory on Home Media Retailing’s rental chart for the week with an estimated $11.63 million in revenue. Last week’s top renter, Sony’s Hitch, held its own, however. Despite a drop to No. 2, the film’s weekly rental take of $10.17 million was just 1% behind its rental gross the previous week.
