New Movies on Blu-ray/DVD

Blade Runner 2049

Ryan Gosling tries to fill the shoes of Harrison Ford in director Denis Villeneuve’s gorgeous, emotional but ultimately unnecessary sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic. While the original’s plot was streamlined and simple, this one is pointlessly convoluted and leaves room for a second sequel that will probably never happen. Harrison Ford is game as the returning Rick Deckard, although it’s Ana de Armas’s new form of Replicant that steals the show. The disc includes several behind-the-scenes features on the design and casting of the sequel, as well as the three transmedia prologue films released to the web.

Happy Death Day

Blumhouse produced this surprisingly inventive rewinding thriller in the Groundhog Day tradition, in which a college student (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity. Gangster Land

The author of this column is quoted on the box of this new release, calling it “A gangster epic in the tradition of ‘The Untouchables!'” This slick indie is indeed an old-fashioned prohibition-era Chicago throwback, in which Al Capone (Milo Gibson) recruits an amateur boxer (Sean Faris) to protect his bootlegging empire. Jason Patric and Jamie-Lynn Sigler co-star.

Cook Off! (exclusive clip)

This cooking contest mockumentary was completed in 2007 but is only now seeing the light of day after the ascent of comedy megastar Melissa McCarthy. Also in the cast are Cathryn Michon (who also co-directed), Wendi McLendon-Covey (who co-wrote), Ben Falcone, Gary Anthony Williams, Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Niecy Nash, Louie Anderson and many other comedy greats. ComingSoon.net has an exclusive deleted scene featuring Bader, which you can check out below!

Crooked House (exclusive clip)

Based on Agatha Christie’s mystery novel, this whodunnit stars Glenn Close, Terence Stamp, Julian Sands, Gillian Anderson, Christina Hendricks and many more. ComingSoon.net has an exclusive clip featuring Honor Kneafsey as Josephine Leonides, which you can check out below!

The Snowman

Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson star as detectives on the trail of a serial killer who has become active again. The film received less-than-stellar reviews, but now’s your chance to check it out for yourself!

Gerard Butler is all that stands between humanity and the catastrophic chaos being caused by some malfunctioning weather-controlling satellites.

Last Flag Flying

Mom & Dad

Arriving on VOD January 19, Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star as parents afflicted as part of an inexplicable epidemic that makes people want to kill their own children.
