Daughters of the Cult: Where Is Ervil LeBaron Now?

In 1972, polygamist Ervil LeBaron started the Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God and changed everything for the LeBaron family. The alleged religious fundamentalist did many illegal activities and reportedly abused several women. Hulu’s upcoming documentary series titled Daughters of the Cult will explore the details about the cult leader. The series will air on the streaming service on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

The five-part documentary series will show how Ervil LeBaron became the leader of the LeBaron family. He went against his brother, Joel, to start the aforementioned group and ordered the killings of his competitors. Subsequently, Ervil reportedly sexually abused young girls and groomed them to become wives of polygamist men. However, in June 1979, authorities apprehended Ervil for his crimes and extradited him to the US.

The court found Ervil guilty of murdering a fellow Mormon fundamentalist and sentenced him to life imprisonment. As per the New York Times, he died in prison at the age of 56. However, reports indicate that Ervil LeBaron had connections with the Mexican cartel.

Daughters of the Cult: How Ervil LeBaron’s family connected to the Mexican cartel?

In November 2019, nine US citizens were killed by drug cartel gunmen while traveling in Mexico. According to NBC News, the victims belonged to the extended LeBaron family. While talking to the news outlet, Anna LeBaron, daughter of Ervil, revealed that the slain US citizens were indeed LeBaron relatives. Although it is unclear why the cartel targeted the members of the LeBaron family, there have been debates about Ervil LeBaron’s connection with the cartel.

As per reports, the extended LeBaron family has been talking about drug cartel violence in Mexico and facing its wrath. Additionally, a member of the extended family, Benjamin LeBaron, was shot to death after speaking against people who kidnapped his brother.

However, there have been several reports that the killings had nothing to do with the family’s dark past. At the time, Mexican authorities said this might have been a case of mistaken identity. Although the truth remains undiscovered, Ervil LeBaron’s heinous crimes continue to affect his family members.
