New CNN Documentary Blindsided to Challenge The Blind Side’s Take on Ex-NFL Star Michael Oher

CNN is releasing a documentary titled Blindsided. This new documentary will challenge the showcasing of the 2009 Warner Bros. Pictures film, The Blind Side. The 14-year-old film is based on the 2006 book of the same name, which was penned by Michael Lewis. The plot of the book and the film was based on Michael Oher’s life.

According to the 2009 film, American Footballer Michael Oher was unsophisticated and uneducated. Furthermore, the film created a narrative that his success was only because of the Tuohy family’s support. However, the new documentary will challenge this narrative. According to CNN, Blindsided will tell the real story of Michael Oher.

In the CNN documentary, Super Bowl winner/Oher’s former classmate Quinterio Franklin, comments on the award-winning 2009 film. He says, “It’s kind of embarrassing, and I’m embarrassed for him as a friend. It’s not accurate and it’s hurtful.”

One of Michael Oher’s former caregivers, Anthony Burrow added, “He’s very smart, he’s capable. In the movie, it depicted a totally different person.”

The actor who played Oher in The Blind Side, Quinton Aaron, said, “I’m sorry about the part that I played in adding to his discomfort in the role that he watched. But in Hollywood, you have to think about the audience that you want to shop and market this to.”

What is the 2009 film, The Blind Side about?

Released on November 20, 2009, The Blind Side showcased the struggles of former NFL star Michael Oher, who became successful, with the help of the Tuohy family.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of the film reads, “Michael Oher, a homeless black teen, has drifted in and out of the school system for years. Then Leigh Anne Tuohy and her husband, Sean, take him in. The Tuohys eventually become Michael’s legal guardians, transforming both his life and theirs. Michael’s tremendous size and protective instincts make him a formidable force on the gridiron, and with help from his new family and devoted tutor, he realizes his potential as a student and football player.”

The Blind Side was directed by John Lee Hancock. Furthermore, it was produced by Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, and Gil Netter.
